Esaunggul.ac.id, Universitas Esa Unggul has once again strengthened its commitment in developing international collaboration through the organization of a Global Signature Course entitled “Behind the Mask: How Cognitive Distortions Shape Personality Disorders (Part 1)”. This activity is the result of a strategic collaboration between Universitas Esa Unggul (Indonesia), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Philippines), and Arizona State University (United States) which are members of the Global Classroom initiative.

The event, which was held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 13.30 WIB / 14.30 PHT, took place in a hybrid manner: at the Universitas Esa Unggul Campus, Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta and was also broadcast live via the Zoom platform. This event was designed to broaden the horizons of psychology students across countries in understanding the relationship between cognitive distortions and personality disorders.

In its inaugural session, this global lecture presented three speakers from two countries, namely:

• Dr. Maharsi Anindyajati, M.Psi, Psychologist, Psychology lecturer at Universitas Esa Unggul who is also known to be active in mental health issues and clinical psychopathology;
• Ms. Samantha Latorre and Ms. Zyra Irene Napolis, lecturers of the Faculty of Psychology from Mapúa MCL, Philippines.

Using a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural approach, the speakers discussed the role of cognitive distortions, often hidden patterns of thought that influence perceptions of self and others, in the formation of personality disorders. This topic was raised so that students can better understand the psychological dynamics behind the “masks” that individuals often wear in social interactions.

The Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma Among Praja, ST, MBA, IPU, ASEAN Eng, in his speech stated that this activity is one of the concrete forms of Universitas Esa Unggul’s vision in realizing graduates with global insight and cross-cultural competence.

“This collaboration not only brings together students and lecturers from various countries, but also enriches our perspective and scientific approach to modern psychological issues. This is in line with our spirit in encouraging innovation and international networking in education,” said Dr. Arief.

This event is part of the ongoing Global Signature Course program, organized by Mapúa University (Philippines) with its global partners, including Universitas Esa Unggul and Arizona State University (ASU) which is known as one of the most innovative universities in the world.

By presenting qualified speakers from two countries, this program is expected to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mental health from a cross-cultural perspective and a global approach. Universitas Esa Unggul will continue to encourage similar collaborations in the future as part of strengthening global competitiveness in the world of Indonesian higher education.
