Esaunggul.ac.id, Visual aesthetics is a crucial element in the world of design. A design work needs to have a strong visual appeal to be of high value. Realizing this, the Community Service Team (Abdimas) of the Faculty of Design and Creative Industries (FDIK) of Universitas Esa Unggul initiated a mural project around the campus.

Led by Ms. Irma Damayantie, S.Ds., M.Ds., the Abdimas FDIK team consists of lecturers and students across study programs – including Visual Communication Design (Ms. Tisa Putrinda, S.Sn., M.Sn.), Interior Design (Mr. Erwin Rezasyah, S.Ds., MID.), and Product Design (Mr. Jhon Viter Marpaung, S.Des., M.Ds.) – working together to bring a creative touch.

Collaboration with the community began through socialization to the PKK and Posyandu Groups of Duri Kepa Village. Mrs. Kurniasih, Chairperson of the local PKK, warmly welcomed this initiative. She emphasized the importance of the campus’ role in empowering the surrounding environment, especially since the location of Posyandu Guji Baru is close to the Jakarta campus of Universitas Esa Unggul.

The creative process lasted for two days (February 19-20, 2025), starting with the preparation of tools and materials, peeling off the old paint, and marking the mural pattern. The mural design-which depicts Posyandu activities-has gone through a series of discussions with Mrs. Nurasia as the Posyandu representative. The active support from the community can be seen from their enthusiasm in witnessing and documenting the making process.

The activity was closed with a group photo as a symbol of appreciation for the collaboration. The partners hope that initiatives like this can continue, not only beautifying the environment but also strengthening the relationship between the campus and the community. Through this mural, FDIK Universitas Esa Unggul proves that design is not just about beauty, but also a medium to share inspiration and build community spirit.
